Recommended Oracle JDBC Driver for APP Server

I've read that an application server (ie, BEA WebLogic) should use a type-4 JDBC driver to get to a relational database. In the case of Oracle, this would be the Oracle Thin JDBC driver.

NOW, I've been told that Oracle (specifically) recommends the type-2 JDBC driver, that relies on the Oracle Client to make DB access possible. This conflicts with everything else I've heard and read.

Could this be correct? Is it possible that the type-2 Oracle JDBC driver is better than the type-4 driver? Received on Mon Aug 06 2001 - 08:05:16 CDT
