But sure the sqlplus editor really sucks. its a pain in the back.

however, it is possible to integrate sqlplus into the emacs (which i dont like ether).
and, sqlplus could be as nice as the sql-text thing in ezsql ( www.ezsql.net ), which does output formated in tables and UNBELIEVEBLE you *can* go back with the cursor if you mistyped something without deleting the statement (like in sqlplus)!
