Oracle 8.1.6 on RH Linux 6.2

Can someone please give me some advice on installing 8.1.6 on RH6.2.

I have the Osbourne 8i for Linux starter kit from oracle press, and am using the official CD. I have reinstalled and rebuilt my machine several times, with little or no luck.

The installation gives different errors each time, and even though says it was successful, is normally incomplete.

Does anyone know of any steps other than metnioned in the book which i need to perform first, or patches which may need to be installed before 816.

Alternatively, is there an alternative method of installation that is more robust than installation from the CD using the standard ./runInstaller.
