Hi Stephen,
you first have to read the RedHat 7.1 README. There you find a note for
installing 8.1.x on RedHat 7.1. Problems arise
cause of the newer glibc 2.4 in RH7.1 but Oracle is based on "old" 2.2. With
the workaround described in the README
all runs fine (i installed it on my ibm notebook, 900 Mhz, 384 MB without
any problems). Check if your DISPLAY Variable is set properly and if network
is up and running. Please "unset" any NLS* Parameter. They do some trouble
in java programs like runInstaller or netasst. Check if your swap is big
enough. You should have at least 512 MB swapspace, more is better - "it´s
better to have something and don´t need it than need it but don´t have it"
