You should use the net8 assistant (netasst.sh) to configure your network and nothing can go wrong. Ok, I agree you will need to have X-windows running.
If you still prefer to do it manually:
If you don't need to support Oracle 7.3 and 8.0 clients and/or Oracle
Enterprise Manager,
the only thing you need to do with respect to the listener is to configure
the address list.
If you set the service_name parameter in init.ora, the database will
register itself with the listener.
On the client side the service_name needs to be present in the connect_data
section of the service alias in tnsnames.ora
Of course, this is all discussed in the Net8 administrators manual, and simple configuration files are included.
