Hi, I've been teaching English in Japan for the last six years, just returned to the U.S., and am considering changing careers.

I know of a good IT program at UC Davis that prepares you for the Oracle certified exams. I don't mind the time and cost of the program (well I do, but it's worth it, I guess), but what's more important is that I know for sure that this is the right career move for me.

I will be attending an IT information session in August, but until then I'd like to hear from real Oracle DBA's in the workplace.

I would appreciate any advice or info., such as . . . do you work a lot of overtime? How often do you have to retrain or upgrade your skills? When you come home do you leave your job at work, or do you have to do extra studying or job-related stuff. How much time do you have after work to pursue other interests (I'm a musician and would like to practice everyday).

Again, thanks for any help you can give me.
