Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.tools -> My install is missing Pro*C - how do I get it?
This should be an easy question. (SHOULD be, except that Oracle's website is such a tangled mess of unrelated links that I can't find even the simplest of answers on it.)
All I need to know is this: Where do I obtain Pro*C? (for Oracle 8i Enterprise edition, version 8.1.5, on Sparc/solaris) Is it part of some other package I order from Oracle? If so, what's the name of the package? Is it part of what should have been installed from the Oracle 8i disk(s)? Is it a download from Oracle? Where the <beep> is the program called "proc" supposed to be? I've wasted 3 hours on Oracle's website trying to answer that question. (Ever try to figure out what's inside those fancy-sounding packages they sell? Ugh... Their whole site was written with managers in mind, NOT the actual people who will be using their products.)
Sorry about my angry tone, but I'm very frustrated right now.
Here's the story: I'm using an oracle setup that was installed by someone else. It doesn't seem to have a program called "proc" anywhere in it (I used "find" to try to find it - it's simply not there.) We have the original install media, and an official license, and if I have to I am willing to purchase some sort of product if that is what I have to do to get Pro*C, but Oracle's website is so badly organized that they won't tell me, given that I want Pro*C, which product I need, or if it is meant to be included inside the products I already have.
I'm not ruling out the possiblity that it was simply chosen not to be installed by the person who set this up. He was using Java, not C, so he might not have bothered with Pro*C. (And now he's no longer available for me to ask.)
I'm trying to port some Informix ESQL-C code over to Oracle's Pro*C, which is what prompted this question.
