Thanks for your comments, your right I have jumped straight in at the deep end, unfortunately time has meant this was the only way. I'm beginning to think you are right, I don't think it is possible to apply MSSQL knowledge to Oracle as they are both very different.

I'll get on with reading the manuals. Again thanks for the advice.
