Populating a item list user static record group?

I've been trying to create a pre-form trigger which would user POPULATE_LIST
to populate a list using a static record group but I can't seem to specify
the proper column in the static record group. Anyone able to help me out
with that? Or point me to a resource which might be able to help me..
