This is from my screen on Windows:

ORA-00322 log string of thread string is not current copy
Cause:    An online log appears to be an incorrectly restored backup.
Action:    Restore the correct file or reset the logs. Refer to the
Oracle8i Administrator's Guide for recovery procedures.

I installed my freeware program Windowsoerr. You can download it from

What it really does is read the installed Oracle documentation and
print the relevant portion. (If you don't want to install the entire
documentation, you need to install the error message HTML files at
least for my program to work)
