ORA-03117 Two-task save area overflow (ORACLE 8)

In testing an Oracle external procedure, I suddenly started getting the message "ORA-03117 Two task save area overflow".

The procedure had been working correctly before, but now the error pops up just as the procedure is called -- in fact, it doen't look like the procedure itself is executing at all.

The Oracle manual describes this as something that rarely can happen, but gives no clue as to what causes it. The DBA for the system checked Oracle's Web site, but only got vaguely related bug reports.

If anybody has any insight into this, I'd appreciate it. What kinds of things to check for in the procedure, the calling program, and the database itself.

Thanks.
