I think it's because Rehdat 7 ships with glib 2.2: Oracle 8.1.6 wants version 2.1
I know that Oracle is fussy about its versions: I had awful trouble trying to install 8.1.5 (it wanted glib 2.0 when I had 2.1 with Mandrake 7.2).
Anyway, a quick search of Yahoo brought up the following link which may help. It talks about a patch from valinux.com which supposedly fixes it for Redhat 7:
http://jordan.fortwayne.com/oracle/8161.html
P.S. I haven't tried it (since I use Mandrake & not Redhat)
Hope it helps.
Lee.
