Hello. I'm new to this newsgroup so I'll quickly introduce myself... My name is Kelly and I'm currently studying for OCP exam #2 (Database Administration). I'm a VB programmer who is also studying VC++ and Palm Programming.

My final goal is to find a job developing database applications in either VB, C++, Powerbuilder or whatever is hot at the time. I'm hoping that by doing the DBA track I'll be ahead of the game.

Now for my question:
I purchased the book "Developing Clinet/Server Applications with Oracle Developer/2000" from Sams Publishing. I have Oracle 8 running on a WinNT machine - I loaded the trial version of Oracle Developer/2000 that came with the book I can't seem to connect to the database... I get an error stating that the database is inaccessible.

I'm feeling rather stupid right now because this seems like something simple - but I'm totally stumped. Can anyone give me some help!!
