Well thanks everybody for all the replies. 2 reboots and lots of registry deletes later we reinstalled 8.1.6 and it looks reasonable except that no documentation menu items show up.

Does anyone know which HTML (and folder) we shoould link to to get the Ora doc. Previously it showed up under Oracle 8 Documentation but there appears to be no menu entry pointing to any doc now..
