This definitely works!!!

Download the i386-glibc-2.1-linux.tar.gz from valinux and follow the directions in the README.Oracle8i. Reinstall Oracle completely to relink and everything works.

There seems to be something of a workaround posted at Red Hat's Bugzilla site - http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi? id=18391 :
-- Quoted ---
Plsase get
http://ftp.valinux.com/pub/support/hjl/glibc/sdk/2.1/README
http://ftp.valinux.com/pub/support/hjl/glibc/sdk/2.1/README.Oracle8i
http://ftp.valinux.com/pub/support/hjl/glibc/sdk/2.1/i386-glibc-2.1-
linux.tar.gz

for instructions. Let me know if it works for you or not.

BTW, glibc 2.1.94-3 is required.

I haven't tried it yet.
