You're right. The ORACLE_SID is set to ORCL ... I'm happy to be able to start my current instance without any problems. If I remember correctly ... Yes, I looked into the documentation just one minute before ... in Oracle 8i Administrator's Guide exists a plain description of how to create an oracle database. There's nowhere a hint to change the ORACLE_SID-env var ... Okay, poor try to defend my behavior :)
