another two cents -
I've had Personal Oracle on a 120mhz, 32mb Pentium portable, under W95 and it seemed happy enough. I'd stick with the 7's though. 8 always seemed a bit miserable, even with just the server running. B'sides, PO7 is a doddle and won't take forever to download.
