Sorry, I guess my anguish overcame me. Does this mean you have successfully installed Oracle client products (SQLNet, PL/SQL, etc.) under the release version of WinME?

In any case, these are the gory details...

I'm using the Oracle 8i v8.1.6 distribution with Universal Installer v1.7.0.19.0. At the File Locations screen I receive the following default paths:

Source Path: D:\stage\products.jar
Destination Path:
D:\STAGE\COMPONENTS\ORACLE.SWD.JRE\1.1.7.24\1\DATAFILES\EXPANDED\JRE\WIN32\B IN\..\\Oracle\Ora81

I obviously don't like that destination path, so I change it to C:\Oracle\Ora81 (I've also tried leaving it alone, but it didn't help). At this point, the "Loading Product Information" box pops up with a progress bar labeled "Loading products list. Please wait." Now here's where things go south. The progress bar will go to different amounts of completion, generally in the range of 50 to 90 percent then stop and an error box pops up saying "There was a problem in accessing the staging area. Please make sure the specified values for 'Source' and 'Destination' are valid." Game over player one.

This was the first scenario. Since then I've tried everything...using a different machine, using different drives, installing from a cd, installing from a temp directory, installing over the network. The system I really want to install to has 256MB of ram and two drives (C: 6GB free, D: 8GB free). This system already had the client installion of Oracle on it when it was running Win98se. After upgrading to WinME, I couldn't connect to my database using SQL*Plus, so I figured no big deal, I'll just reinstall it. And I've been searching for answers ever since.

So the real question is...am I the only one trying to install Oracle under WinME or am I the only one having problems?

Thanks,

Jim Marinis
