Lynn,

First, get a copy of Oracle 8i Personal Edition if you don't have access to it at work. You'll need it to do some of the hands on stuff. Make sure you got a machine that can handle the load.

Second, buy the DBA exam guide for the certification you are going to do and STUDY it deeply. Do the SQL test first, The Admin Exam second, The B/U exam third, and the Tuning exam last. 8I has a networking exam also I think.

The exam cram books are *ok* as an additional resource, but you really need the Oracle Exam Guides because the questions in the exam guides are similar in style to what you *might* see on the test, and the content in pretty thorough. In retrospect, the Exam Guide was *more* useful than the exam crams because of the nature of the tests.

I think that unless you are working day to day with the product, you will need *at least* 2 weeks to study for each test so you don't overheat yourself. Take as many practice tests as you can find, and study the stuff you get wrong.
