Take a look at the Oracle Concepts Manual. Also, I have heard that DBA 101 is a decent book for a beginner. You might consider taking a Database Design class at your local college. You need to know SQL and PL/SQL. You should definitely get yourself a copy of Personal Oracle along with the Development tools (Forms, Report, Designer, etc). You might have a better shot at an entry level position going the Oracle Developer track. Entry level DBA positions with no experience are very,very,very rare.
