Hi, Darrell,

Yes, there could be a problem. If you have access to MetaLink, read Note:96117.1, which will describe the problem and provide a remedy. If you don't have access to MetaLink, let me know and I'll send you the info via email.

Caution: The most reliable method for upgrading is Export/Import; however, you should first create dynamic SQL that will create scripts to create non-user level import objects, like public synonyms, tablespace definitions, user definitions, roles, system privilege grants, role grants, tablespace quotas, rollback segments, database links created under SYSTEM, snapshots and snapshot logs, etc. Then do a full export of the old database. Create a new database in 8.1.6 and run the scripts. Then import at the USER LEVEL for all those users having objects from the full Export of the old database. This way, you will never have the problem of a corrupted data dictionary, which can happen if there is a bug in the Import or corrupted data in your export. This takes a little longer to do, but not nearly as long as resolving the problems when the upgrade doesn't work. If you are careful creating your scripts, I guarantee you this will work without any problems.

HTH,
Myrna
