Bhargava,
first ... there is nothing like Oracle 8.0i. There is Oracle 8.0.x and Oracle 8.1.x aka Oracle 8i.

Now to your question:
The servicename in ODBC references a databasealias for SQL*Net. In your case, you need to set up on the same machine where ODBC is installed SQL*Net. In this case it means thaty ou have to create an TNSNAMES.ORA entry for your database.

There are some cases where you do not need to configure SQL*Net and take advantage of the SQL*Net mechanism to find the right server:

  1. Your database environment is using a Oracle name server
  2. you installed on the machine an instance with the default SID (ORCL) and the listener is listening on the default port 1521. In this case you only need to specify the machinename.
