Kim,

In simple terms, data replication is taking data from one place and moving a copy to another. For instance, your head office has data stored in DB2 on an AS/400 machine and wants to make this data available at a local office running Oracle on a UNIX box. Data replication software allows the data to be moved and transformed if desired. Replication can occur on a periodic or net change basis depending on your needs.
