Hi Nobody,
I am in the same situation you are in. My company has asked me to look for a good (and cheap) SQL editor, PL/SQL debugger, etc.
I have looked at the following:
www.quest.com - SQLNavigator: good, but not cheap. This is what I used
at my old job and is what I base a good SQL editor on. It has a nice
layout (most use similar layouts), etc. (refer to my other e-mail
titled SQL, PL/SQL debugger posted 6/8/00 for my other criteria)
www.idbconsulting.com - SQL Object Builder: cheap, but not good. Missing
a good data extract process. Also have some bugs (I downloaded an
English version that had only French help files).
www.embarcadero.com - Rapid SQL: good, but not cheap.
www.allaroundautomations.com - PL/SQL developer: good *AND* cheap. So
far, this is the best candidate for a SQL editor. You might want to
check it out.
The only thing I don't like (or perhaps is just something I have to get used to) is in the SQL editor tool, if forces you to have only one active script at a time. SQLNav allows you to write as many scripts as you want and run only what you highlight. I think PL/SQL developer should have this capability, but nonetheless is a good and cheap tool.
What do others think?
