Ok, so I stopped reading too soon....Actually I was only trying it from the Net8 assistant and failed to note that by using Namesctl ( actually your name may vary, depending on platform) you can execute a dump_tnsnames command which I imagine, writes a tnsnames.ora file - I didn't test it because I already had one and didn't want to overwrite it just yet...
