second instance didn't start

Created a second database instance on my Sun box with Oracle 8.1.5i.
Worked fine till I rebooted.  The first instance started, but the
second instance, called ent2 didn't.  Tried something like dbstart
ent2, but ignores it.  How do I start the second instance?  Thaks.
