Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.tools -> 8 to 8i migration problems
Hi, everybody,
First, I am running RedHat Linux 6.1.
I am encountering difficulty migrating my 8.0.5 database to 8.1.6. After installing 8.1.6, when I try to start oracle and mount my database, I come up with the following error:
SVRMGR> startup mount pfile=initORCL.ora
ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 29061104 bytes Fixed Size 69616 bytes Variable Size 27787264 bytes Database Buffers 1126400 bytes Redo Buffers 77824 bytesORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
And then it fails! There is nothing wrong with the listener, and everything is located on this server, so I don't know what this whole "communication channel" thing is about. I emailed Oracle's OracleINSTALL service but (in addition to telling me this was not covered by that service, not being directly related to installation) all they did was give me a cryptic line about file permissions. All my oracle files are owned by user oracle in group dba. IF anyone has had any experience with this problem, please let me know. Thanks a lot.
