Locks: Update of an un-indexed column

Message-ID: <3925081B.A6353A30@hotmail.com.nospam>#1/1

Sever and Versions: Oracle 7.3.3.6, Open VMS.

Scenario: I want to update just one column of a table

          (about one million records)
This column doesnt have any index on it.

Question: while this update is going on, what type of lock
will be issued? Will the whole table be locked or
will it be a "row lock"?

Does any one has any information on locks, how to trace them, how to tune them? Any help would be very much appreciated. Please send me an email at s_c_99_at_hotmail.com

Thanks. Received on Fri May 19 2000 - 00:00:00 CDT
