connect site to Oracle

Hello,

I am getting ready to help develop an E-Commerce site that will need to be connected to an Oracle db running on Linux servers (The db is already in place). I've worked with sites using ASP-Access and PHP3- MySQL, but never with connecting to an Oracle db. Basically my two biggest decisions are:

  1. What platform and web server would be best to use (*nix/Apache or NT/IIS) and,
  2. what language/tools to use to connect to db (ASP, PHP, Cold Fusion, or Oracle's Web Application Server).

Based on my experience, I would prefer to use MS IIS (maybe IIS5/Win2k) and ASP, but a few people have warned me that there could be some compatibility issues and that it's usually best (easiest) to stick with one vendor's suite of tools from front to back (use MS SQL server-IIS- ASP OR use Oracle 8i-Oracle Application Server).

Keeping in mind that we are going to be purchasing a new web server and the site will be created from scratch can anyone make any recommendations? Pitfalls to watch out for? And specifically, any suggestions about Oracle's Web Application/site development tools (I've never worked with any of these.. steep learning curve?)?

thanks,
Craig Shields
