Hi Sybrand,
Oracle 8i DBA Handbook, Oracle Press/Osbourne. Index mentions neither "sysdate" nor "dual", in my mind reasonable grounds to as a question on a newsgroup. Fully expected some patronizing responses like yours. All I can say is that you don't need to reply if it is below your mighty DBA skills. (!)
By the way, I read the newsgroup, you really don't have to mail your cretinous repiles to my personal address.
