Oracle Error 03121 - but in the middle of execution ?

I just got Oracle Error 03121


ORA-03121: no interface driver connected - function not performed




I can understand getting this error while trying to connect.



However I am getting this error after successfully running hundredes
of inserts using Java code.



What could cause the intereface driver to suddenly disappear ?
