It is my personal opinion that they is no better starting place to
learn Oracle than reading the Concepts Manual.
The Concepts manual starts with a couple of chapters about the structure of the Oracle rdbms product and covers all the basic logical structures, tables, indexes, constraints, triggers, and goes on to covers issues like security and auditing.
After that you can try either the Application Programers Guide or the
Database Administrators guide as most appropriate for your needs.
