From what I have found, you are on the proper news group. I really cannot recommend a Solaris book at all, but bring a warning.

Admittedly, it has been almost 3 years, but 3 years ago, I tried to port a system from Interactive Unix to Solaris. (Interactive was a fairly early Intel based OS. Solaris could be either Intel or Sparc.) Oracle's upgrade path from Interactive was to Solaris, so it seemed like a good choice.

When I got the CD from Oracle, I could not get it loaded. It took several weeks with Oracle support before I could get a confirmation that the CD was for Solaris for Sparc. At that point, they did not support Solaris for Intel. If you are planning on moving to Intel, try to get confirmation from Oracle that they do support Solaris for Intel, now.
