I have a friend embarking on a medium-sized e-commerce development. Their web development has been entirely using MS products. My friend is happy with this environment - he hasn't been plagued by BSODs (to my surprise). He's happy with ASP etc.

I don't know enough about the MS world to give advice and I'm hesitant to suggest Linux for all this if for no other reason than that my friend doesn't have Linux skills, and "if it's not broke ...".

My concern is that they are about to migrate from Access to SQL Server 7. I have heard that SQL Server 7 has grave reliability problems. It's GUI is great though - very intuitive etc etc - it's the thing MS do best.

Does anyone have comparitive experience (relatively recent) of SQL Server 7 and other databases in terms of reliability. We're talking 1000 - 10000 transactions per hour peak to a database that will be perhaps a few gig in size. Received on Tue Feb 01 2000 - 00:00:00 CST
