Oracle development using Java

I am a database architect and developer and I use the Java programming
language for database programming.  I have used JDBC for various tasks such
as loading data with SQL/LOADER, logging into various different databases,
etc.,...



I have noticed that Java programming is being used mostly for web
development.  Are there any other ways that Oracle and Java are being used
in "real-world" situation other than for web development?
