Hello,

Novice on Oracle, the entreprise where i work recently buy 'Oracle 8i personal for Windows 98'. The goal is to convert a paradox database to an Oracle database.

When we converted a Paradox database to an Interbase database, we have created an Alias with 'BDE administrator' and the 'DataPump' program from 'Delphi 4' have done the conversion.

With Oracle, i don't know exactly which 'SERVER NAME' i must give to the Alias. So i have some different answer.
1. Is there another way to convert the database ? (from an Oracle program for example).
2. If not, How can i first create a database with Oracle ?

After give to user all privileges, i have use "CREATE DATABASE ...". All seem to be right.
I try to create a table and complete it. Same thing.

But when i try to view my database with 'Oracle8i Navigator', it doesn't seem to be exist even after the "commit" instruction. How can i see it ? What is exactly the 'local database' in a personal version and where is it on the harddisk ?
What is the real extension of an Oracle database ?

Thanks in advance for all your answer
