There are plenty of good reasons for having more than one database instance running on a server. I once worked in a situation where several different groups shared a single server. It was much simpler to give each group their own database instance so that they could maintain strict segregation of data as well as perform tuning that was best suited for their application. Technically it would have probably been possible to have them all reside in one instance, but it was certainly easier to maintain the way it was set up. Received on Wed Jan 05 2000 - 06:32:52 CST
