Oracle 7&8 on same PC

I need help (tips, advice) on installing an Oracle 7 client application on PC's that are already running Oracle 8 applications.

I am not a database person, but I was handed this and need to get it done. I have basic Oracle knowledge.

What do I look for to verify success in the install, and how do I avoid rendering all the Oracle apps unusable? There will be about 15 Pc's connecting to a server for this. The server also has Oracle 8 on it.
