lock on plsql-objects: database needed restart

Hello,

has anyone experience with a compile/lock problem at Oracle 8?

When we are manipulating database objects, and there are many invalid, and we're trying to compile objects, the process hangs until killed. There must be a lock at some plsql-objects, and our only solution is now to restart the database.

Can anyone offer a better solution? Does anyone know, where i can view locks on plsql-objects?
