I have a problem with a VB app reporting from Oracle via Crystal Reports

The path to the data is:

(all MS/VB products installed from original VB Enterprise CD)

VB 5.0 Enterprise Ed.
Crystal OLE Control 4.6 crystl32.ocx 16/1/97 CR Runtime Engine crpe32.dll 13/11/96
(Designed by Crystal Reports For VB 4.6.1.0)
Win 95
MS ODBC Driver For Oracle ver 2.00.00.6325 (msorcl10.dll 1/6/97) TCPIP
Novel Netware 5.0
Oracle Server 8.0

(1) I installed MSORCL32.DLL ver 2.573.4202, the latest driver from MDAC 2.1
but VB fails with IPF in Kernel32.

(2) What is the latest ActiveX Control / CR Runtime Engine / ODBC Driver
combination I can use.
n.b. the Oracle driver SQORA32.DLL ver 8.00.03 also crashed my VB client.

(3) Must the VB Crystal Reports program included in VB 5.0 require ODBC to
get to Oracle as I use OO4O for client data access and it performs very well.

(4) How do I get to the API for the report engine as it is very limited.
