ASP and Oracle

Hi
would really appreciate if someone could help me on this... when i insert data using oracle and see the results in a webpage [using ASP], i have extra characters loaded with my data. when i check the first time by retrieving data in SQL*plus, the result is fine
but the moment i retrieve data in asp, i have trouble

is there a function/procedure in oracle that can trim the ASCII characters?
