SENIOR DATABASE SPECIALIST
The MathWorks is looking for a database performance tuning expert comfortable with operating system internals. The ideal person is someone who has expertise in delivering 24X7 high performance systems. The Senior Database Specialist will be working with legacy and newly developed systems. This person will analyze requirements, make schema changes, design new databases, and create data warehouses. This person will be working in a three-tiered environment consisting of database servers, application servers, and clients.
Qualifications: BS in computer science or related technical area. At least 4 years of experience (2 of which should be database performance tuning experience) required. NT administration required. Experience in Informix / Solaris environments highly desirable. SQL Server is a plus. Background in business systems design, including third party applications (Vantive and JD Edwards) is very desirable. Superior communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment are required.

PROJECT LEADER
As the project leader of the Business Systems Infrastructure team you will manage and lead the Database Specialists and front line application support staff. The infrastructure team is responsible for: managing the database and the database architecture of the company’s business applications, performing front line application support for all of Business Systems’ applications, and providing reporting support to the company’s business areas. Key responsibilities for this position include managing and coaching the technical staff, working closely with the company’s System Services Group on hardware, network, and operating system issues impacting the business applications, and planning and executing infrastructure projects such as database upgrades, application upgrades, and disaster recovery implementations. You will work closely with the business application development team and implement necessary database or infrastructure improvements to support new and enhanced business applications. You will work closely with application vendors such as Vantive, JDEdwards, and Microsoft on issues impacting the business applications while gaining an understanding of the future direction of the vendors and how that maps to The MathWorks business needs. The position will provide an opportunity to work with a full range of business application areas, current technology, and a dynamic team of people
Qualifications: Seasoned project manager with strong database and business application development skills; 3-5 years experience leading moderate to large projects; at least 2 years experience in people management; effective negotiation skills and proven interpersonal communication skills; strong project planning and execution skills; experience in managing projects in the client-server/relational database environments (particularly WindowsNT, SQL Server); experience with data warehouse projects a plus; and experience with Vantive, JDEdwards, Visual Basic, and Object Oriented design and implementation a plus.
