Index evaluation of Whitepace as a value

Hi,
Oracle indices can't handle null values, but whitespace is a valid character. Is there any problem evaluating select statements with whitespace as the values for indexed fields? I'm assuming that the value ' ' would be evaluated as different from ' '.

Thanks,
