elapsed time

Is this hard to figure or am I just no seeing it?

I have an application that stores the date and time of an event in separate date fields. I'm trying to write a report using PL/SQL (and OWS) that displays the elapsed time between two events. From a high level, I need to subtract the first date/time from the second date/time to get elapsed time. I can't seem to figure out how to do this...
