Thanks for this warning.
I'm quite sure that the truth is slightly more complicated.

Can you tell us whether the upgrade was done using the same "init" file,

    or was a new database created and the data imported into it? Has the layout of the datafiles over the filesystems changed a lot? Has the disk layout (striping,raid,etc or not) changed a lot? etc. etc.
We are curious...
