Dev2k Alert package.

Can any one suggest me a method using which I can provide the facility like "New mail has arrived" in D2k environment. I am also using the web deployment kit ..by which these forms will be converted to applets and can be accessed through web. Will this type of feature be available in web? I have looked in to the alert package but it says that I can't use it in forms .
