These are essentially "religious" arguments and to be honest the post seems something akin to flamebait. Anyone who thinks that Oracle cannot be appropriately backed up for virtually any application or cannot be replicated for most application needs has some sort of axe to grind. We use both Oracle and Sybase, they are both fine products and I certainly hope that Sybase can survive the dance of death they agreed to with MicroSoft. Oracle8 is a vastly more competent product in virtually any area than Sybase, at least at the moment, but it is also considerably more expensive, and Sybase does have some features that suit it well for many applications. Beyond that, any discussion in a forum such as this is likely to be more heat than light.
