[Microsoft] [ODBC driver for Oracle] Invalid scale value

I have built a query for a group of records using Microsoft Query which prompts for a date range:

   Start_Date
   is between
[Enter Start Date],[Enter End Date]

In Query, it works great letting me insert the values and bringing up the appropriate records. However, when I use the "Get External Data" in Excel and try to run the query, after it prompts me for the start date and I enter the date (ie. 4/21/99) followed by return, it returns the following error:

[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle]Invalid scale value

What gives?
