I am in no way an Oracle DBA, but I managed to get it installed at my Linux computer at home. What you need to do is this:

unpack the archive file
find the docs in unixdoc/ and read them. Better yet, print the PDF formatted docs in unixdoc/server.805/ (All docs are provided in both HTML and PDF, but PDF is designed for printing on paper and HTML isn't)
read the installation guide and do what it says
make a Linux user to install and run the database, e.g. username "oracle8" and group name "dba"
start orainst/orainst as that user
if you can't figure out something, it is in the manual. If you are sure it's not, ask here.
