We have a couple of 1.2TB databases, and plans for some of our other to grow to that range.

The bulk of these database (90% or so) are read only and are accessed by 3% of the transactions (or less).

We use magento-optical storage for the read-only tablespaces. We have had more trouble with the jukeboxes than with Oracle.

One thing you better have down pat early is backup and recover in case of system or disk failure. It can take a long time to restore 1.2TB.
